Katie Myles

February 26, 1946 — December 6, 2015

Katie J. Myles, 69, of Bettendorf, died Sunday, December 6, 2015 at UnityPoint Trinity Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2015 a McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Friday at the funeral home.  Cremation rites will follow and burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Katie was born February 26, 1946 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the daughter of Lee & Bernice (Hall) McKinnis.  She was united in marriage to Calvin Myles Jr. on April 16, 1964 in Clarksdale, Mississippi.  He preceded her in death on October 5, 1991.

Katie had operated military bowling alleys around the world.  She had also managed her husband’s towing company; Cal’s Towing and had been a PBX Operator for Harris Casino.

Katie bowled on a woman’s league at the former Town & Country Bowling Alley in Rock Island for several years.  She enjoyed singing, cooking and tending to her garden. She was a member of Greater Antioch Baptist Church in Rock Island.

Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Calvin (Mary) Myles III of Bettendorf and Erich D. Myles of Walcott; her daughter, Pamela Myles of Bettendorf; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her sisters, Laverne Carter of Detroit, Michigan, Pauline (Derrick) Johnson of Davenport, Lois (Jerry) Reed-Sledge of Orlando, Florida and Cheryl (Davis) Roper of Peoria, Illinois; and her brothers, Paul (Liz) Roper of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bobby (Angela) Robert of Decatur, Illinois, Robert (Toni) Reed of Milwaukee and Roosevelt (Connie) Hall of Milwaukee.

In addition to her husband, Katie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dorothy Sullivan and her brother, Willie Carter.
