A year later, Ken moved into Ridgecrest Retirement Village.
He excelled in football, softball & tennis during his school years and graduated from Zanesville (Ohio) High School. Ken attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio until the Great Depression caused him to quit college to help with the family finances.
In Ohio, he worked for Armco Steel in Zanesville and the B&O Railroad out of Newark. He then started as a trainee in the Newark Alcoa plant and in 1948, was transferred to the new Alcoa plant in Riverdale, Iowa. He was Supervisor in the Furnace Department for many years and following that, was on special assignment for the Alcoa Pittsburg office for three years before retirement.
Ken & Connie traveled to many places in the United States and throughout the world including trips to Alaska, Hawaii and the Holy Land where they visited the Wailing Wall and King Tut’s crypt. They also spent a number of winters in Texas to avoid the cold Iowa winters.
He enjoyed life on the Mississippi River, boating and waterskiing with his family. Ken loved and trained hunting dogs and spent many days in the fields with them hunting pheasant and quail with friends. He loved golf, shot 4 holes-in-one and even shot a 71 on his 76th birthday. Ken finally gave up the game at age 96.
He became a 32nd degree Mason with the Masonic Organization and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Ken joined St. John’s United Methodist Church of Davenport in 1948 and since moving to Ridgecrest, has attended the Sunday services led by Chaplain Sue Housman.
