Kenneth Erwin Apsley, 78, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Ken donated his body to the University of Iowa. Memorials may be made to a local animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
Born on November 5, 1937 in Satanta, KS, Ken was the son of Cecil and Emma (Stroupe) Apsley. On November 18, 1995, he married Shirley Carpenter.
Ken served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 – 1960. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal in air reconnaissance from 1965 – 1992. Ken enjoyed reading, crocheting, traveling and poetry.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Shirley; brothers, Dave (Annie) Apsley of Satanta, KS and Rob (Phil) Apsley of Georgia; niece, Angie (Chad) Schimmels; nephews, Travis and Casey; a special niece, Valerie Kaiser and a special nephew, Dennis Turner; two great nephews and five great nieces; and a special friend, Marge Callender.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ken was a wonderful husband and a kind, caring and giving man. He was deeply loved.
