Kenneth Frank Duhm, 87, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at his home.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Private burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or UnityPoint Hospice.
Born on February 11, 1927 in Sterling, IL, Ken was the son of Frank William and Arline Eva (Loux) Duhm. On February 26, 1971 in Moline, IL he married Maxine Joyce Rock.
A graduate of Sterling High School, Ken was the Illinois State Discuss Champion in 1944. He was inducted to the Sterling High School Sports Hall of Fame on September 1, 2000.
Following high school Ken served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Ken worked for the Sterling Police Department prior to his career as a communication service man for Illinois Bell. His memberships included: St. James Lutheran Church in Bettendorf; Early Morning Lodge #672 in Bettendorf and Rock River Lodge # 612, AF & AM in Sterling, IL; Tel-Com Pioneers; Endowment member of the National Rifle Association; Hawkeye Section of the Mercedes Benz Club; Yellowstone Association; Putnam Museum; Friends of Vander Veer; the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars; Moline Pistol Club, Bettendorf Gun Club, Milan Rifle Club and Rock Island Arsenal Marksmen Club. He was a founder of Fort Armstrong Chapter of National Campers and Hikers Association.
Ken enjoyed traveling, photography and flying and held a private pilot’s license. He was an expert marksman and enjoyed competitive pistol shooting.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Maxine; children, Pamela Wilkerson of Davenport and Kenneth David (Marceia) Duhm of Moline; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Elwin Albert Duhm of Grand Haven, MI; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Wayne Duhm.
