He was born September 10, 1937 in Bettendorf, the son of Lyle E. & Margaret Rose (McCorkle) Flathers and was a 1956 graduate of Bettendorf High School. On March 15, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sue Francis in Cambridge, Illinois.
Kenny was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed attending races, collecting model cars and racing memorabilia. He also enjoyed cutting firewood and selling it to his many customers. This allowed him to meet many wonderful people and make new friends. Kenny will always be remembered as a person that worked hard, played hard and had a great and dry sense of humor and a wry wit.
After retiring, Ken & Sue enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona and summers in Bettendorf. He loved to travel and cherished the many trips he took with family and friends. His beloved family was the joy of his life and his memory will live forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 51 years, Sue; his daughters, Lynn (Steve) Bixler of Clarence, Iowa and Pam Hyle of Bettendorf; his grandsons, Brock (Paige) Bixler of Centennial, Colorado, Cale (Brittany) Bixler of Colorado Springs, Colorado, (Cale is currently serving with the U.S. Army in the Middle-East) and Brandon (Anna) Hyle of Bettendorf; his great-grandchildren, Braxton, Tailyn & Bailey; his sister, Rose (Lowell) Harris of Searcy, Arkansas; Brian Gittings of Phoenix, Arizona and Jeff Guzzo of Sarento, Florida whom Kenny thought of as his own sons; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
