Kenneth R. McCoy, 84, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 25, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens in Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Youth Baseball.
Kenneth was born June 23, 1927 in Bettendorf, the son of John & Elvia (Welch) McCoy. He served in the United States Navy from July 2, 1945 – August 1, 1946.
On June 20, 1947 he was united in marriage to Betty Norkus in Bettendorf. She preceded him in death on June 27, 1978. On May 15, 1982 he was united in marriage to Kathleen A. Weber in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Ken was a Mill Operator at Alcoa for 40 years. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Bettendorf Bulldogs fan. Ken loved attending the Iowa Hawkeye Bowl games and watching and listening to the Bettendorf Bulldog games. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, the Merchants Bowling League, I-Club, Bettendorf Youth Baseball, The Elks and Bettendorf High School Boosters Club. He was a Boy Scout Leader. Ken loved his roses and flower garden. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, word puzzles and spending time with his family. Ken loved to tell stories.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Kathleen; four daughters, Kathy (Pat) Burke of West Plaines, MO, Nancy (James) Brown of Milan, Lynda (Mike) Eckermann of Rock Island, and Nancy McCoy of Plymouth, MN; one son, Kerry (Fiancé Rhonda) McCoy of Bismarck, ND; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald “Butch” (Carol) McCoy of Florida and Robert (Dorothy) McCoy of Michigan; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Betty; sons, K.C. McCoy and Gregory McCoy; two sisters; five brothers; and one great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Marshall.
