Kenneth Young

Kenneth L. Young, I, 67, of Long Grove, Iowa, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 11, 2010 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family.

Ken was born January 29, 1943 in Eldridge, Missouri, the son of Delmar & Phyllis (Mizer) Young. He was united in marriage to Lorraine H. Mekshes on February 8, 1964 in LeClaire, Iowa.

Ken retired in 2002 from Sivyer Steel as a coreroom supervisor after 41 years of service. He and Lorraine had formerly owned the Grove Tap in Long Grove for several years. Ken was an avid fisherman and he also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandsons.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lorraine; his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth & Shannon Young of Park View, Iowa; his mother Phyllis Young of Maysville, Iowa; his grandchildren, Tyler & Ryan; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia & Newt Baker and Virginia & John Dailey, all of Davenport; and his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald & Cheryln Young of Blue Grass, Iowa.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, Delmar; and his fishing buddy, Dan Mekshes.
