Kenneth L. Springer, 75, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport where he was a member or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born August 31, 1929 in Davenport, the son of Milo & Mabel (Shoesmith) Springer. On May 7, 1954, he was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Fatchett in Davenport.
Kenneth retired in 1984 as a design engineer with the former American Air Filter Company of Moline, Illinois after 10 years employment. In earlier years, he worked in the metallurgical lab at the Alcoa Company, Davenport Works for 20 years.
During the Korean Conflict, Ken served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to the church, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. His pride & joy was his beloved 1936 Chevrolet which he painstakingly cared for & maintained. He & Marilyn enjoyed many memorable outings in their car with the Lincoln Highway Car Club. Traveling, reading and following NASCAR were also favorite activities.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Marilyn; his daughter & son-in-law, Suzanne & Dorsey Small of Louisburg, Kansas; his sons & daughters-in-law, Doug & Kathy Springer of Germantown Hills, Illinois and Dean & Michelle Springer of Geneseo, Illinois; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry; his father, Milo; and his mother, Mabel Mumford.
