Kenneth L. Stinson, 88, of LeClaire, Iowa, died Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf after an extended illness.
Private family graveside services will take place at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Ken was born April 10, 1920 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Leo & Mae (Feiner) Stinson. He married Sarah (Libby) Tollenger on December 8, 1941 in Havredegrace, Maryland. They were happily married for 67 years.
Ken was a proud retired veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during the World War II era. He participated in action against the enemy at Kwajalein Atoll, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was also a veteran of the Korean War.
Following his military career, Ken sold cars at the former Schwind-Boecker Buick dealership in Davenport. He also sold caskets for a number of years in the Quad-City area. He was an avid reader and will be missed by all that knew him.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Libby; his children, Brenda M. Pruter of Sarasota, Florida, Sharon E. Wangsness of Allison, Iowa, Kenneth L. Stinson, II of Bushnell, Illinois and Brent M. Stinson of Mount Joy, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Doug Forari of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Chad Stinson of Anamosa, Iowa, Cory Stinson of York, Pennsylvania, Lisa Raab of York, Pennsylvania, Carrie Stinson of Bettendorf and Sean Stinson of Macomb, Illinois; 8 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 11 step-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his grandson, Terry Forari.
