James Kyle Pollock, 76, of Eldridge, IA, died as a result of cardiac arrest on April 4th after emergency transport to Trinity Hospital in Bettendorf, IA. He was well-loved and his family is fortunate to have spent the previous weeks with him. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, April 10th at Thunder Bay Grill, 6511 N. Brady in Davenport, IA. A memorial service will be held at the Eldridge United Methodist Church, 604 S. 2nd Street in Eldridge, IA on Saturday, April 11th, at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to your favorite charity in Kyle’s honor is a wonderful way to commemorate his life. Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
Kyle was born in Piggott, Arkansas on June 4, 1938 to Charlene and James Pollock, and was raised with his brother Stephen Douglas Pollock in Detroit. There he graduated from Redford H.S. and Wayne State University. He loved Colorado ski trips and was an excellent swimmer. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. In the Quad Cities he worked for Parker Rustproofing and Mohlenpah engineering, and married Madeline (Meg) Schmidt Pollock, the mother of their four children.
Kyle was proud of his hydraulics/ pneumatics business, K-Power Engineering, and spent 25 years building client relationships based on his knowledge of industrial controls and products, and his favorite saying “the devils in the details”! He was known for his quick wit and good nature, and appreciated because of his impressive memory, knowledge base and business integrity. His wife, Ruth Arp, has been his second mate in making K-Power an important partner to manufacturers in Iowa and Illinois. He was a former president of the Iowa Fluid Power Society.
Kyle and Ruth married in 1986 and combined their families. Her grandkids became his and his kids became hers. They shared Sierra Club outings, bird watching, beekeeping, and simply enjoyed whatever animals turned up at their pond every day. They recently had been very busy with family visits, new grandchildren, and taking care of Kyle’s mother Charlene Pollock Weigle.
Kyle will be greatly missed by his large family and by the customers he served for many years. He did not like to take credit for his good life and health, kindness and generous spirit, and would say they were a product of a happy, healthy, loving upbringing.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Arp, Eldridge, IA and by her children Becky (Dan) Esbaum of Eldridge, IA, Gary (Laura) Arp of Sayre, OK, Dennis (Judy) Arp of Flagstaff, AZ, and his first wife Meg Pollock of Bettendorf and their four children: Elizabeth Pollock Avenia of Rock Island, IL, Michael Pollock of Salida, CO, Stephen Todd (Corinna) Pollock of Erie, CO and Kristin Pollock (Mark) Wittman of Chicago, IL as well as their grandchildren, Isabelle, Oliver, Campbell, Bennett, Leah, Adam, Amber and Paula.
