Lance Johnson

d. January 17, 2011

Lance Franklin Johnson of LeClaire, Iowa and Lexington, Kentucky, passed away at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa on Monday, January 17, 2011.

He was born June 30, 1944 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Lucyle Kenney and George William Johnson. He spent his early years in Hibbing, Minnesota and treasured his summers growing up on Lake Vermilion at his grandmother’s cabin.

Lance graduated from Palmer Junior College in Davenport, Iowa and attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Dr. Marjorie Rosengren Knuth on December 30, 1965 in Omaha, Nebraska. Until ill heath intervened in the early 1970’s, he worked at Oscar Mayer in Davenport.

Lance had many interests, including gardening and politics, and he was an expert on breeds of dogs. He loved his family, his friends and life in general. There were few questions asked of him that he could not answer.

He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Dr. Marjorie Johnson, D.C., Ph.D., his children, Jennifer L. Johnson and Miles R. Johnson (Robin) both of Lexington, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Hayden and Hayley Wise and Ella and Rose Johnson; his sister, Lynne O’Hern (Joe) of Johnston, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lance was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Cody; his beloved German Shepherd, Marconi; his Great Pyrenees, Bert; his son’s American Fox Hound, Boomer; and his parakeet, Joe.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport, the Virginia (Minnesota) Area Historical Society and the Buffalo Bill Museum in LeClaire.

Services will be private for the immediate family members, with graveside services at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Virginia Area Historical Society, the Scott County Humane Society or Rivermont Collegiate (St. Katharine’s/St. Mark’s School) in Bettendorf.
