Larry J. Shoultz, 62, a resident of Riverdale, Iowa died suddenly on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Trinity Bettendorf after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf.  He will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Riverdale Volunteer Fire Department.

He was born in Clinton, Iowa on March 13, 1952, the son of Verlin & Hildegard (Wetzler) Shoultz.  On March 15, 1975, he was united in marriage to Ann K. Griswold at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf.

During the Viet Nam Conflict, Larry served in the U.S. Army

Larry was employed at the Alcoa Company for thirty years, retiring in 2002.  He was a member and past-president of the Aluminum, Brick & Glassworkers Union Local #105.  Following retirement, he worked as a driver for MetroLink for eight years.

He loved to “take care” of his neighbors in Riverdale and was an avid hunter & fisherman.  Spending time with his beloved grandchildren in Georgia was a very special joy to Larry.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Ann; his son, Lukas (Emily Ericson) Shoultz of Cumming, Georgia; his daughter, Stephanie (Ed) Meyer of Marietta, Georgia; his grandchildren, Bronson & Jordan and Ella & Brooks; his sisters, Brenda (Jeff Simpson) Shoultz of Folletts, Iowa and Sofia (Jim Sawvel) Simons of McCausland, Iowa; his brother, Gene (Lynn) Shoultz of Clinton, Iowa; many nieces & nephews; and his mother-in-law, Ava Griswold McFarlin of Riverdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
