LaVerne S. Taylor, 96, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Private graveside services will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Social Services of Iowa and may be sent in care of McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.
LaVerne was born April 10, 1912 in Norway, Iowa, the daughter of Sjhur & Louise (Ask) Larson. She was united in marriage to Donald L. Taylor on June 6, 1948 in Norway.
Prior to World War II, LaVerne worked for the Collins Radio Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked primarily at making a home for her family throughout her life. LaVerne was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bettendorf. Additionally, she was a member of King’s Daughters, Lutheran Church Women, and had volunteered for the American Cancer Society. She also had been a Girl Scout leader in earlier years.
LaVerne was a second generation Norwegian-American and was very proud of her heritage. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time with family and friends, especially her two granddaughters.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 60 years, Don; her daughter and son-in-law, Marty & Paul Pearson, of Davenport, Iowa; her grand-daughters, Jill Walsh & her husband, Matt, of Scarborough, Maine, Jodie Pearson, of Arlington, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; and her 13 brothers and sisters.
