Lavonne Fae Hill, 73, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Trinity Bettendorf after a brief, but brave battle with gall bladder cancer.

Private family services will be held at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest in the spring in the Durant Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Family Museum or the American Cancer Society for research in gall bladder cancer.

Lavonne Franzen was born November 17, 1937 in Muscatine County, Iowa near Stockton, Iowa on the family farm where she grew up and had a wonderful life.

She graduated from Durant High School and the State University of Iowa with a degree in elementary education.

She married Ronald L. Hill on September 28, 1963 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Davenport.

Lavonne was an educator, teacher, para-educator and guest teacher in the Bettendorf School System enjoying her work very much. Hobbies included reading, sewing, sweepstaking, walking and genealogy. Lavonne had a very deep love for her family, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Ron; her son & daughter-in-law, Mitchell & Kim and their children, Austin, Kristen & Jayden, all of Bettendorf.

Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Elna (Hering) Franzen in 1986 and her brother, LeMoyne in 1952.

“A smile helps to light up the world. though she has passed on, she will forever live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.”

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Heartland Hospice for their kindness, love & care especially Melissa, Michelle, Abbie, Kathy, Amber, Sunnie & anyone else to helped us in the process. They would also like to express their gratitude to Nipps Machine Shop of Moline, Illinois for their patience & understanding.
