Lawrence M. “Larry” Guy Jr., 75, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at West Wing Place in DeWitt, Iowa following an extended illness.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 2:30 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Catfish Jazz Society or the family.
He was born November 22, 1935 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Lawrence M. & Thelma (Hewlett) Guy Sr. and was a graduate of Davenport High School. On December 24, 1970, he was united in marriage to Icy Bernice Shepherd in East Moline, Illinois. Bernie preceded him in death on June 1, 2011.
Larry was employed at Sivyer Steel Company, retiring as an inspector after 40 years of faithful service.  His passions included golf where he had 5 holes-in-one in his lifetime and was also an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Larry was a tremendous fan of Jazz music and was a tireless volunteer at the annual Bix Biederbeck Jazz Festival for many years. In addition, he was a dedicated & loyal member of the Catfish Jazz Society and was a former member of their board. His loss will be hard to take, but the beautiful memories he left behind will live forever in the hearts of those who knew & loved him.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Vicki (Mark) Woodford of Grand Mound, Iowa, Terri Keith of Eldridge, Iowa and Deanna (Mike) Barnard of Davenport; his son, Bob (Tami) Guy of Grand Mound; his step-children, Howard L. Dunn of Silvis, Illinois, Edward C. Dunn of Seabeck Washington, Donna L. Dunn of Bettendorf and Sheila M. Padilla of Moline, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Larry was an only child, but made a multitude of friends during his life, including his life-long and beloved friend, Kent Bowers of Bettendorf.
