Lawrence L. “Larry” Ranum, 77, of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Unity Point/Bettendorf.
Visitation will be Thursday, 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Masks are required and social distancing expected for those attending. Private family funeral service will be held on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gilda’s Club or St. James Lutheran Church of Bettendorf.
He was born in Belmont, Wisconsin on August 10, 1943, the son of Vivian and Vera (Willis) Ranum. Larry was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the VietNam Conflict.
On October 7, 1967, he was united in marriage to Janet Timm in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 1, 2013. He later married Sandra Huizinga on July 28, 2018.
Larry retired as a computer programmer for John Deere – Davenport Works, after 30 years.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sandra; his daughter, Melissa (Rick) Zawada; his son, Brian (Tonya) Ranum; his step-daughter, Lisa Robinson; his grandchildren, Reese, Chloe, Zoe, Amanda, Hannah and Caleb; his sisters, Ruth (John) Flannagan, Sandy Martin, Sherry (Marvin) Rosensthiel, Sharon (Wally) Roush, and Mary (Robert) Brenum; and his brothers, Tom (Inge) Ranum, Bill (Pat) Ranum, and Paul (Lynne) Ranum.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny and Pete; his sisters, Jean Bryant and Ula Thompson; and by his parents.
Larry had a servant’s heart. For many years he volunteered at the QC Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Bettendorf Parks, St. James Church, and was a frequent blood donor. Those who knew Larry remember his kindness, gentle manner, and unceasing selflessness. We love you so much, Larry. You will be dearly missed.
