Lawrence H. “Bud” Voss, 84, a life-long resident of LeClaire, Iowa died Saturday, June 12, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jack’s Cemetery in LeClaire. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Bud was born August 6, 1925 in LeClaire, in the same house in which he was born and raised, the son of Matthes G. & Ella (Stoltenberg) Voss. He married the love of his life, Margaret L. Brown on January 24, 1945 in Davenport, Iowa.
Bud loved spending time with his family, friends and his beloved dog, Daisy. He retired as a hard working farmer and worked as a Golden Harvest Seed dealer after 15 years of service until his retirement in 1990. He also enjoyed building things and tinkering in his workshop and loved playing dice and cards with his family and friends especially on Tuesday nights. Bud also spent his time fishing, hunting and gardening.
If you asked the grandchildren and great-grandchildren about Big Daddy Bud they would tell you he deserves a medal for being such a wonderful person.
He will be greeted in heaven by his wife Margaret who passed on May 12, 2010, his son, Danny who passed in 1977, his two grandsons, Jestin Voss who passed in 1976 and James “J.B.” Suiter, who passed in 1993, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Richard (Brenda) Voss and Robert (Lindy) Voss all of LeClaire; daughters, Dian (Dave) Urush of LeClaire and Darlene (Rick) Suiter of Princeton, Iowa; grandchildren, Matt (Stephanie) Voss, Luke Voss, Jenny (Mike) Culp all of LeClaire, Nick Voss (Allie Sime) of Bettendorf, Kevin (Stacy) Suiter of Donahue; step-grandson, Josh Sears of Bettendorf; great-grandchildren, Mikenna & Kaden Culp of LeClaire, Jaymeson, Corbin & Kayleigh Suiter of Donahue; and step-great-granddaughter, Abby Sears, Bettendorf.
