Lawrence J. Schumaker, 64, a resident of Blue Grass, Iowa died Monday, December 28, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. to the time of service on Saturday. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. Memorials may me made to the family or to the American Cancer Society.
Lawrence was born August 1, 1945 in Kewanee, Illinois the son of Harold R. and Marjorie A. (Jackson) Schumaker. He was a graduate of Cambridge High School, Cambridge, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Mary K Doubler on October 30, 1965 in Atkinson, Illinois. He was later united in marriage to June K. Hill on September 3, 1976 in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2001. He then married Joann J. Harris on July 12, 2003 in DeWitt, Iowa.
He worked for International Harvester, Rock Island, Illinois and Springfield, Ohio for many years until retirement. He later worked for Nichol’s Aluminum, Davenport, Iowa.
He enjoyed riding Harley Davidsons, racing, his grandchildren’s sporting events and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Joann Schumaker, Blue Grass, Iowa; his daughters, Julie L. (Ross) Grimm, Davenport, Iowa, Melinda K. (Greg) Taylor, Arcola, Illinois, Melanie K. (Jesse) Dean, Cambridge, Illinois, Jeanne (Jeff) Luebbe, Arlington, Tennessee and Lisa K. (Stan) Phillips, Diamond City, Arkansas; his sons, Allen (Pamela) Gilbrath, Davenport, Iowa, Darren J. (Sue) Schumaker, Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Doug J. (Marie) Schumaker, Malta, Illinois, Rick J. Gilbrath, Blue Grass, Iowa, Scott A. (Cori) Harris, Colona, Illinois and William T. (Connie) Harris, Long Grove, Iowa; his twenty-nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and his sisters, Jewell C. (Dennis) Beranek, Milan, Illinois and Cynthia J. Reyes, Moline, Illinois.
Along with his wife, June he was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Marvin W. Schumaker and his brother-in-law, Steve Reyes.
