Lawrence R. Kersting, 82, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, after injuries sustained in an automobile accident on February 25.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 7, 2008 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday evening at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Callao, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Burn Unit.
Larry was born August 24, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Joseph & Irene (Faust) Kersting. During World War II he served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in May of 1946. He was united in marriage to Doris E. Phipps on August 28, 1948 in Jennings, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1980.
Larry retired in 1988 as a supervisor after 44 years of employment at Wonder Bakery, Davenport.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Theresa (Gordon) Staley, of Bettendorf; his sons, Larry “Fritz” (Debra) Kersting, of Carolina, Puerto Rico, and Thomas Kersting, of Rapids City, Illinois; his grandchildren, Katurah, Kalim, Timothy and Daniel Kersting, and Allison and Keaton Staley; his great-grandchild, Kayshawn Kersting; his sister, Arlene (Arman) Fazio, of St. Louis; and his brother, Joseph (Carol) Kersting, of Macomb, Illinois.
In addition to his wife, Doris; Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard; his sister, Lorraine Wittmer; and his brothers Edward and Vincent.
