Leo H. “Shorty” Cox, 76, of Davenport, died Monday, September 27, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M, Thursday, September 30, 2004 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the family.
Leo was born January 18, 1928 in Conrad, Iowa, the son of John Webster & Eva Mae (Belt) Cox. During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps. He was united in marriage to Mary Alice Inman on December 28, 1946 in Salina, Kansas. Leo was employed as an Automobile Reconditioner and was last employed at West Auto Sales in Davenport. He was a member of the Good Sam RV Camper Club and was well known thoughout Quad-City car dealerships. In addition to cars, he enjoyed camping and traveling.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary; his daughter and son-in-law, Faye A. & Wayne Bartosh, Davenport; his sons and daughters-in-law, Charles L. & Madelyn Cox and David E. & Linda Cox, all of Davenport and Kerry W. Cox, of LeClaire, Iowa; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; his sister, Betty Jones of Davenport; and his brother Leonard “Larry” Cox of Rogers, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother John W. Cox; his son, Bruce W. Cox; his granddaughter, Mary L. Bartosh; and his great-grandson, Jacob M. Cox.
The family would like to announce that a luncheon will be held following the committal service at 5817 Oakbrook Road, Davenport.
