Leona M. Canfield, a long-time resident of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away April 15, 2004 in Tucson, Arizona. She retired in 2001 and moved to Tucson to be near her son, Bill.
Leona was born in Holland, Iowa and was the daughter of Frederick & Anna (Lingelbach) Finke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Fred, John, Rueben, Lester, Jacob & Wallace; and her sisters, Louise Conklin and Edna Buchan.
She is survived by her sons, Jack (partner, Ken) of Toledo, Ohio and Treasure Island, Florida and William (partner, Ron) of Tucson; her grandson, Scott (Chris) of Gilbert, Arizona; and her granddaughter, Amy of Tucson. Also surviving are a special niece, Megan Beaudet of Ormond Beach, Florida; daughter-in-law, Becky Berenyi of Gilbert, Arizona; and many other nieces & nephews.
Leona worked at K&K Hardware in Bettendorf 29 years. She loved her job and her many customers. She loved gardening & dogs. Leona could always get plants to bloom when no one else could. She loved taking care of her son’s dogs whenever they were traveling. Until recently, she cared for abused dogs in her home and was able to make remarkable progress with these animals.
Leona was a member of Bettendorf Presbyterian Church since 1936.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Tucson for all their help during the last several months.
Funeral and graveside services will be private in accordance with her request. She requested that any memorials may be made to: Joy Offering for Retired Pastors, Presbyterian USA, Central Receiving Section #300, Louisville, KY 40289.
