Bettendorf

Leonard D. Kall, 99, of Bettendorf passed away Monday, January 27, 2025 at The Vistas at Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3rd at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Asbury United Methodist Church, the American Legion, or to the Humane Society of Scott County.

Leonard was born on June 22, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of George and Anna (Blodikas) Kall. Following his graduation from Davenport High School, he continued his education at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Leonard proudly served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps from 1944 – 1946. On June 5, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marylou Tangeman in Kewanee, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 24, 1998. He later met his very special friend and companion, Betty Hofreiter in October 2000. She preceded him in death on November 17, 2020. 

Leonard worked as an electrician for 3 years at Alcoa. After that, he was president of Ridgeview Lumber Company, which he started with his brothers before retiring 25 years later. Leonard enjoyed traveling and spent many summers with his family at their cabin at Lake Okoboji. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was playing golf, fishing, or riding his bike. He also liked going to casinos and playing cards. Leonard was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Bettendorf.

Those left to honor his memory are his children, William “Bill” Kall of Nokomis, Florida, James “Jim” (Barb) Kall of Donahue, Iowa, and Kathy (Steve) Naber of Bettendorf; two grandchildren, Steven (Carrie) Naber of Des Moines, Iowa and Jennifer (Joe) Balvanz of Ankeny, Iowa; five great- grandchildren, Jacob Stewart, Steven Naber, Isaac Naber, Grady Balvanz, and Brooks Balvanz; and sister, Nancy Smith of Watervliet, Michigan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marylou; his companion, Betty; granddaughter, Julie Stewart; daughter-in-law, Brenda Kall; step-sister, Joann Carter, and brothers, Albert, Richard, and George Kall.
