Leonard F. Mock, 85, of Bettendorf, died Friday, October 20, 2006 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M., Monday, October 23, 2006 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf, where he was a member. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., Sunday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the church.
Leonard was born September 10, 1921 in Geneseo, Illinois, the son of Joseph & Agnes Mock. He was a graduate of Geneseo High School. He was united in marriage to Rachel M. Moens on September 28, 1946 in Atkinson. She preceded him in death on January 7, 1999.
Leonard served in WWII in the 136th Infantry, 33rd Division Company G of the United States Army. He received the Silver Star for gallantry in action against the Japanese on Northern Luzon. He had also received the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in November of 1945.
He was self-employed for 30 years as owner of House of Type in Bettendorf. He retired in 1983.
He coached Little League and Pony League Baseball in Bettendorf for over 20 years. His memberships included the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Forresters, and he served as past president of the Village of East Davenport.
Leonard was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also enjoyed watching high school girls’ softball.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynette & Paul Herberts, of Rochester, Minnesota, and Nancy & Craig Schroder, of Bettendorf; his sons, Gary Mock, of Davenport, and Craig & Donna Mock, of Bettendorf; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his wife, Rachel; he was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lucille and Genevieve; his brother, Vincent; and a granddaughter, Melissa Herberts.
