Leonard "Lonnie" Logan

Leonard L. “Lonnie” Logan, 63, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at his home, with his loving family at his side after fighting one hell of a battle with cancer.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Port Byron, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. A scholarship/award program for future electricians is being created in Lonnie's name.  Please make any memorials out to the family to be used for this purpose.

Born on May 28, 1953 in Moline, Illinois, Lonnie was the son of Charles and Adelyne “Sally” (Carr) Logan. On September 2, 1972 in Davenport, he married the love of his life, Jamie Meer.

Lonnie served his county from 1972 – 1975 as an Aerospace Systems Repairman in the United States Air Force, during the Vietnam War.  He graduated from Lansing Community College with a degree in digital electronics.

Lonnie worked as a journeyman electrician. He was a member of IBEW Local 1379 where he had served as Vice President. Lonnie was inducted to the AFL-CIO Hall of Fame in 2014; received the Edward Eagan Soldier of Safety Commendation in 2011; the National Safety Council Distinguished Service to Safety Award in 2011; had been chairman of the National Safety Council; and was instrumental in installing the Alcoa Eagle Cam. Lonnie enjoyed teaching safety classes and instructing electrical apprentices, golf, photography, traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jamie; daughter, Amy L. (John) Mason of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Austin, Cassie and Maddie Mason; twin-sister, Lara L. (Monty) Dunscombe of Bettendorf and sister, Cathy (Art) Abend of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brothers, Clifford (Barb) Logan of Goshen, Indiana and Robert Logan of South Carolina; mother in law, Jean Meer of Davenport; many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Cheryl Moore of Rapids City, Illinois; and let’s not forget the Friday night dinner gang!

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Cory G. Logan; father-in-law, Gene Meer; and a special friend, Gary Moore.
