LeRoy E. Kimler, 75, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home with a Masonic service held at 6:30 P.M. conducted by the Hamilton Lodge, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave. Chicago, IL 60707 or The Greater Mississippi Valley Mended Hearts Chapter 88, Davenport.
LeRoy was born on January 24, 1932 in Truro, Iowa, the son of Earl and Edna (Hall) Kimler. He was united in marriage to Barbara McClintock on February 13, 1954 in Yuma, Arizona.
LeRoy served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Manchester during the Korean conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Navy Commendation Medal during combat. After leaving the Navy he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal where he retired in 1987 with 30 years of government service. He later went to work for Grampp Realty until 2001.
He was a Member of Hamilton Masonic Lodge, Bettendorf, the High 12 Club, NARFE, American Legion Post 26, Davenport and The Greater Mississippi Valley Mended Hearts Chapter 88, where he served as a befriender for many years.
LeRoy loved people and people always loved him. He enjoyed helping others and he could always fix anything for anyone.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Barbara; his sons, William Kimler and his wife, Karen, of Edmond, Oklahoma, David Kimler of Bettendorf and Douglas Kimler and his wife, Ramona, of Plano, Texas; his five grandchildren, Michael, Eric, Danielle, Thomas and Jonathan; his brother, William Kimler and his wife, Jeanne, of Bettendorf and his two nephews, Gary and Mark Kimler.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents.
