LeRoy P. Wilson, 91, a resident of Davenport, Iowa and formerly of Webster, New York and Zephyrhills, Florida, died Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Crest Health Center, Davenport.
Per his request, there will be no services or visitation. Cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will take place at a later date in Pittsford, New York. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department, or the American Cancer Society. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, is assisting the family with arrangements.
LeRoy was born December 27, 1915 in Seneca Falls, New York, the son of Harry & Rosetta (Penfold) Wilson. He was united in marriage to Pauline Metz on March 24, 1945. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1972. He was later united in marriage to Doris A. Davis on September 27, 1980. She preceded him in death on September 22, 2002.
During World War II, LeRoy served as a 1st Lieutenant with the United States Army, 53rd Medical Battalion of the 29th Division at the European Theater of Operations. He was awarded the Bronze Star and various other commendations for his honorable service.
LeRoy was employed for 41 years by the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York.
His memberships included Northfield Lodge #426 AF & AM in Pittsford where he attained 32nd Degree Mason, Damascus Shrine of Webster, Damascus Temple Legion of Honor, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Rochester, and the Royal Order of Jesters, Count No. 003 in Rochester.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters LeAnne (Wayne) Schneckloth of Davenport and Laurel (Joseph) Leone of Fayetteville, New York; his step-sons, David (Patricia) Davis of Meridian, New York, and Daniel Davis, of Auburn, New York; his grandchildren, Kevin (Paula) Schneckloth, Keith (Melanie) Schneckloth, and Jason, Lindsay, Joseph, and Gregory Leone; his step-grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Davis, and Shadron, Thomas, and Robert Davis; five great-grandchildren; and his special companions “Sissy Cat”, “Milo”, and “Gracie”, the Ridgecrest cats-in-residence.
In addition to his parents and wives, LeRoy was preceded in death by his brother, James; and a step-grandson, Geoffrey Davis.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Ridgecrest Village and Crest Health Center for their compassion and care given to LeRoy.
