Lester Clemons

Lester W. “Wally” Clemons, 92, of LeClaire, Iowa, died Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in LeClaire.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Tuesday at the church.  Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or to First Presbyterian Church.

Wally was born October 22, 1923 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, the son of James & Feryl (Jones) Clemons.  He was a 1941 graduate of Clinton High School and served in the United States Army during WWII.

Wally was united in marriage to Betty M. Stewart on March 27, 1944 in Princeton, Iowa.

He had been plant manager of the LeClaire Manufacturing Company and had remained active there for over 60 years.  He was a co-founder of the Eastern Iowa Threshers Association, participating in steam and tractor shows.  Wally had built a 1/3 scale steam engine and enjoyed being mechanically inclined.

Those left to honor Wally’s memory include his wife of seventy-two years, Betty; his daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy & Donald Weber of Princeton, Linda Christner of LeClaire and Debbie & Alan Corson of LeClaire; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and his brother and sister-in-law, Norvall & Mary Ann Clemons of Williamsburg, Iowa.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Wanda; and his brother, Donald.
