Lester Craig “Butch” Franey, 68, a resident of Green City, Missouri and formerly of Davenport, Iowa died Monday morning, February 2, 2015 at his home.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 6400 Crow Creek Rd. in Bettendorf, Iowa. Contributions are suggested in his memory to the New Tribes Mission.
The son of Lester Frances and Betty (Behm) Franey, he was born July 16, 1946 in Davenport. On May 28, 1970, he married Donna Diane Dirksen in Bettendorf.
Survivors to cherish his memory include his wife, Donna; his sons, Casey (Tamara) Franey of Green City and Lucas (Angie) Franey of Indianapolis, Indiana; his daughters, Langela (Mike) Richardson of Seymour, Iowa, Lanida (Stephen) Czekus of El Paso, Texas and Lacy (Mitch) Eisenburg of Clinton, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; his brother, Jay (Prudence) Franey in Florida; his sisters, Kay McLean in Florida and Julie (Dan) Stevens in Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
Before his retirement in 2008, he drove a truck for ten years and previous to that, sold meat door to door. Early in life, he and Donna served as missionaries in Brazil.
Butch was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Navy. He liked to fish, but the most important to Butch was studying the Bible and sharing God’s word with others.
