Lester L. Light, 88, of Bettendorf, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
Per his request there will be no services or visitation and cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to a charity of the Donor’s choice.
Lester was born May 28, 1923 in Williamson, Iowa, the son of Orville Clay & Margaret Faye (Hall) Light. He served in the United States Navy from 1940 to 1949 where he was a Chief Boiler Maker.
He was united in marriage to Margaret E. Sterbenz on May 3, 1993 in Aurora, Colorado.
Lester was employed at Alcoa from 1949 to 1982 as a Unit Supervisor of Crane Inspection and Repair. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Alcoa 25-Year Club. He was also a member of the Blue Grass American Legion Post 711. Among the things he enjoyed was traveling throughout the years.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Margaret; several stepchildren; his step-sister, Betty Bowe of Davenport; his nephews, Jim Chambers of Kerrville, Texas and Bill Mason of Montezuma, Iowa; his niece, Sandra Wymore of Chariton, Iowa; several cousins; and many close friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lottie Louella Mason on March 28, 2010.
