Lewie F. Buttrey, 86, a resident of Bettendorf, IA, died on Friday, October 17, 2003 at Bettendorf Healthcare Center, Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 20, 2003 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Monday. Interment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.
Lewie was born May 20, 1917 in Messler, MO, the son of Charlie and Della (Gray) Buttrey. He served in the Army in the 508th Parachute Regiment during WWII and was awarded three bronze stars during the Belgian fourragere campaign. He also served during the Korean Conflict. Lewie was employed as a mechanic for International Harvester for several years, retiring in 1978. His memberships included the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 9128, Bettendorf, and he was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. In his spare time, Lewie enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Margaret; his daughter and son-in-law, Loretta & Del Leese, Davenport; his step-sons Jerry Fosdick & his wife, Maureen, Sperry, IA and Steve Fosdick, East Moline, IL; his step-daughter, Patricia Gean, Phoenix, AZ; his sisters, Irene Jean Accord, Andover, IL & Vickie Buttrey, Dexter, MO; his brothers, George Buttrey, Platteville, WI, and Ray Buttrey, Desloge, MO; he is also survived by several grandchildren. Lewie was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian, his parents, and his brothers, Charles & Homer.
