Lewis A. Sutliff, 65, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Friday, December 24, 2010 at Manor Care in Davenport after an extended illness.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial with military honors will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Lewis was born November 25, 1945 in Moline, Illinois, the son of James & Elma (Taylor) Sutliff. He was a 1963 graduate of United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois.
Lewis served in the United States Navy for six years and was honorably discharged in 1972. He served on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga which had participated in the recovery of the Apollo 16 moon mission capsule and astronauts near American Samoa during April of 1972.
He was employed for a number of years in maintenance at Bettendorf High School.
Those left to honor his memory include his brothers, Floyd, Howard, Terry and Gary, all of East Moline, Illinois.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents.
