Lillian E. Sullivan, 89, of Davenport, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center in Davenport.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014 in Building 3 at the Good Samaritan Society in Davenport.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Cancer Society or the Good Samaritan Society.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lillian was born September 26, 1924 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the daughter of Walter & Elizabeth (McCarvil) Michalski.  She was united in marriage to Leo P. Whipka in 1943.  He preceded her in death on 1954.  She later was united in marriage to Eugene H. “Gene” Sullivan on July 2, 1957 in Davenport.  He preceded her in death on October 14, 2009.

Lillian had been employed with Nichols Wire and the Kimberly Chiropractic Clinic.  She had attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport.

She enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, shopping and fishing.  She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Lillian will be remembered as a loving person who was willing to help anyone.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy & George Hoke of New Sharon, Iowa, Jackie & Robert Deere of Bettendorf and Jeanne & Paul Ferring of Blue Grass, Iowa; her son and daughter-in-law, James & Sandy Sullivan of Long Grove, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Loretta Finley of Beatrice, Nebraska; and her daughter-in-law, Barb Sullivan of Hampton, Illinois.

In addition to her husband, Gene, Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Sullivan; her sisters, Esther Comstock and Claire Starr; her brothers, Danny and Buddy Michalski; her grandson, Charlie Ferring; her granddaughter, Wendy Schmertmann; and her great-grandsons, Josh and Brandon Sissel.

Lillian’s family would like to express special thanks to the CNAs, nurses and staff of the Good Samaritan Center for all of their care and concern during this time.
