Lilly L. Ritter, 88, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Due to the cold weather, services will conclude at the funeral home and burial will be later at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for contributions to Lilly’s favorite charities.
She was born September 20, 1920 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of John William & Edna Mae (Fisher) Hultquist. On January 8, 1938, she was united in marriage to Frederick “Fritz” Ritter in Bettendorf. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1989.
Lilly was a devoted homemaker and in earlier years, worked at the Davis Greenhouse in Bettendorf. She was also employed at Little’s Grove Catering and the Pleasant Valley School System.
She was a former member of the Quad-City Ostomy Association, the LeClaire Lioness’s Club, Parents Without Partners Chapter 484 of Davenport and the Rebekah Lodge #2 of Pleasant Valley.
She loved to crochet and made many, many crafts over the years. She enjoyed doing craft shows, was an excellent seamstress and a collector of everything. Lilly adored babies and whether they were her own or not, she loved them all.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Roma (Ron) Fellner of Durant, Iowa, Betty (Gary) DeCraene of Pleasant Valley, Sandy Downing of Davenport, Donna (Chuck) Mancil of LeClaire, Iowa and Lori (David) Wells of LeClaire; her sons, Cecil (Diane) Ritter of Blue Grass, Iowa, Fred (Sandy) Ritter of Bettendorf, Jack Ritter of Bettendorf and Stephen Ritter of Greeley, Colorado; 23 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Edna Sander of Newport News, Virginia, Ruth Castallano of Bremen, Indiana, Mona Norvell of Davenport and Dorothy Bowe of Lexington, North Carolina; her brothers, Robert Hultquist of Walcott, Iowa and Donald Hultquist of New Castle, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
In addition to her husband, her sister, Mary Hume; her brothers, William, John, Raymond, Calvin & James; and her great-granddaughter, Ashley, preceded her in death.
