Linda S. Nelson, 59, of Bettendorf, passed away Monday November 4, 2013 shortly after arriving for work at Scott Community College in Bettendorf, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00A.M. on Saturday November 16, 2013 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Linda was born February 28, 1954 in Troy, Ohio, the daughter of Jim and Dorothy (Loeding) Nelson.  She united in marriage to Robert Nelson on February 14, 1992 at Vanderveer Park in Davenport, Iowa.  Linda is a graduate of Black Hawk College, Augustana College, and the University of Wisconsin of Madison.  She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Library Information Science from the University of Wisconsin of Madison.  While she was achieving her Master’s degree she was a full time student and had a full time job.  She was employed with Eastern Iowa Community College at the Belmont Campus in the Library as a Librarian, for over 20 years.

Linda enjoyed her occupation as librarian teaching students and visitors new information on a daily basis.  It gave her a sense of accomplishment and was very rewarding for her to know she was helping people accomplish their goals.  She worked a lot of hours and different shifts so a lot of people got to know her and enjoyed seeing her when they stopped into the library.  Linda also had a passion for animals. When she was going to Black Hawk she sent a substantial donation to the Save the Whales Foundation.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, and will be remembered as a sweet and loving person. The love of her life was her husband Robert, spending every spare moment she could with him.

Those left to honor her memory include: Her husband Robert Nelson, Bettendorf; son Don (Sherry) Cooper, Rock Island; father Jim Nelson, Texas; and mother Dorothy Nelson, Bettendorf; her mother-in-law Lillian Carothers ; her brother –in-law Bill Carothers Jr.; and stepson Nathan Sneath.

She was preceded in death by her close cousin Calvin Marsh.

Memorials may be made to your favorite animal welfare charity in Linda’s memory.
