Obituary: Lois (Geerts) Evans
Lois (Geerts) Evans, 75, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at her home. She bravely fought cancer four times in the last ten years. Her final ten month battle ended Tuesday night at her home surrounded by her beloved family.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Friday. The family requests that those attending should dress in casual attire. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honor Flight or to the family.
She was born August 1, 1939 in Whiteside County, Illinois, the daughter of Aitkin & Hazel (Dolan) Carpenter and was a graduate of Erie (IL) High School. On February 13, 1959, she was united in marriage to Jim Geerts in Morrison, Illinois. She was later united in marriage to Dean Evans on July 26, 1984 in Louisville, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2013.
In earlier years, Lois had been employed as a cashier at the former Bishop’s Buffet in Bettendorf and at the I-80 Truck Stop in Walcott, Iowa.
She loved to travel and at one time resided in Holland. She also enjoyed an occasional visit to the gambling boats and treasured the times spent with her kids and grandkids.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Diane (Steve) Ott of Dixon, Illinois; her sons, Randy (Sheri Praught) Geerts of Davenport, Iowa and Brian (Karla, deceased) Geerts of Bettendorf; her step-son, Kipp (Tammy) Evans of Marion, Iowa; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Swinderman of Bettendorf; and close family friends, Lisa Fox and Johnna Sparks.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Doug Geerts; her granddaughter, Andrea Geerts; her brothers, Donald, Robert and Wayne Carpenter; and an infant sister and infant brother.
