Lois Fitzgerald

December 17, 1916 — April 12, 2014

Lois Fitzgerald, 97, a resident of Bettendorf, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Born on December 17, 1916 in Seymour, Missouri, Lois was the daughter of the Rev. Caleb Bain and Nancy Bell (Huff) Maggard. On January 18, 1936 in Pansy, Missouri, she married Herman E. Fitzgerald. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1997.

Lois was an avid quilter and an excellent seamstress and cook. She had a “green thumb” and grew beautiful large gardens. Lois cherished and loved her family.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Bill Fitzgerald of Princeton, Iowa, Dorothy Kimmel of Bettendorf, Kenneth Fitzgerald of LeClaire and Janice Anderson of Port Byron; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her siblings, Jimmy Maggard of Willard, Missouri, Gladys Huff and Francis Montgomery both of Ozark, Missouri, Medina Hall of Springfield, Missouri and Tinnie Williams of McPherson, Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gerald Fitzgerald; grandsons; brothers, Roy, Arthur, Hiram, Glenn and Lincoln Maggard, brothers, David and Otto Maggard in infancy and sisters, Nora Stilings, Inice Laurens and Nina Mae Roberts.

The family gives their heartfelt thanks to the facility and staff at the Iowa Masonic Home for their compassionate care over the years.
