Lois A. Schroder, 86, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf following an extended illness.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Davenport where she was a long and faithful member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Wednesday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice.
She was born on the family farm in rural Walcott, Iowa on April 25, 1922, the beloved daughter of Nels & Hilda (Stender) Steenholdt. On May 19, 1946, she was united in marriage to Eugene H. Schroder in Davenport. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1999.
Lois was employed as a bookkeeper at the Lorenzen Insurance Agency in Davenport many years ago. After her marriage she devoted her time raising her family and caring for their home in Bettendorf. In later years, she assisted her husband, Gene in the operation of their family business, theSchroder Insurance Agency of Bettendorf.
In addition to the church, Lois & Gene were longtime members of Oakwood Country Club in Moline, Illinois. She enjoyed playing golf and was an avid bridge player as well. The Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeye’s were also on her list of favorites.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Craig Schroder of Bettendorf, Neal (Pam) Schroder of Bettendorf and Bruce (Barbara) Schroder of Palo Alto, California; her grandchildren, Amanda, Adrienne, Tara, Rachel, Philip, Brent & Luke; her sisters, Kathleen (Waldo) Goetsch of Noblesville, Indiana and Shirley (Delmar) Hamann of Brookfield, Wisconsin; and a special friend, Keith Walter of Geneseo, Illinois.
