Lola Mary Bradley-McGinnis, 88, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and formerly of Donnellson, Iowa died on Friday, November 17, 2006 at her home.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Davenport where she was a member. Visitation will be from 8:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the church. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday at St. Paul Evangelical Cemetery, Donnellson. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Davenport, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of Donnellson where she was a former member or to a favorite charity. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
She was born July 21, 1918 in Argyle, Iowa, the daughter of Louis H. & Clesta (Derr) Westermeyer. She married Milton E. Bradley at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Donnellson on June 5, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1977. She later married Finley P. McGinnis at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Donnellson on November 26, 1982. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1986. She later married Reinhardt G. Tonn at First Presbyterian Church of Davenport, Iowa in 1990. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2004.
Lola was a graduate of Argyle High School, earned her BA from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and her MA from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. She taught elementary school for 25 years in the Central Lee Community School District and was a life-member of the National Education Association.
In addition to the church, she was a member of the Bettendorf Senior Citizens and served there in various capacities. She also served on the Board of the Georgian Square East Homeowners Association for 10 years and was Secretary for 3 of those years.
Lola & her husband, Reinhardt helped cook for the Salvation Army and delivered meals weekly for 5 years.
She enjoyed life, her family, church, music, working with flowers, crocheting, sewing, dinner theater, reading, sports & playing cards.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Marilyn (Jack) Dose of Waverly, Iowa, Carolyn (Ross) Herron of Harlingen, Texas and Sharon (Jim Eash) Varner of Iowa City, Iowa; her sons, Craig Milton (Angie) Bradley of Elgin, Illinois and Curtis E. (LaDonna) Bradley of Mooresville, Indiana; her step-daughters, Jane Weis of Bettendorf, Dr. Elizabeth Tonn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Marcia Koschman of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her step-sons, John McGinnis of Chicago and Dr. William Tonn of Alberta, Canada; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Audrey Klein and Forby Fickel, both of Burlington, Iowa; her brother, Melvin Westermeyer of Keokuk, Iowa; and many other relatives and wonderful friends.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George, Norman, Calvin, Gilbert and Eldon Westermeyer.
