Lola R. Sheehan

d. May 23, 2006

Lola Ruth Sheehan, 98, a resident of Apache Junction, Arizona and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away on May 23, 2006 in Mesa, Arizona surrounded by her family and friends.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 6063 Arbor Ave., Building B., Mesa, Arizona 85206-6100.
Lola was born in Macomb, Illinois on July 19, 1907 to Marian & Phenie (Plate) Hay. She was the youngest of eight children. Her parents, six brothers and one sister preceded her in death. She married Don Sheehan on February 28, 1954 in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1989. Although they did not have children of their own, they became “Aunt Lola and Uncle Don” to generations of children that were blessed by their love and wisdom.
Lola retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1972 after 30 years of dedicated service. Lola and Don loved to travel and spent many winters in Tucson, Arizona prior to his death. She moved to Apache Junction from Bettendorf in 1994 to be near her niece, Kathy Hay.
She was a very dignified lady who lived a courageous and loving life with a deep conviction to “do the right thing, be kind to others, as well as accept people for who they are.” One of her strongest messages was to “Live and Love” which she displayed fully.
Those left to honor her memory include her nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. Her memory will live in our hearts forever.
