Loretta F. Buchanan, 73, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Her funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 18, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.  Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur City, Iowa.  Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Loretta's name.

Loretta was born March 25, 1943 in Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Howard K. & Pauline M. (Young) Brooks.  She was united in marriage to James A. “Red” Buchanan on July 19, 1960 in Des Moines, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on March 2, 2008.

Loretta had worked for a number of years with the Bettendorf Community Center.  She enjoyed going to church and appreciated the love and support from her church family. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Loretta dedicated herself and her time to those she loved.  She enjoyed supporting her grandchildren’s events and she enjoyed being outside and keeping herself busy.

Those left to honor Loretta’s memory include her sons, David Buchanan of Bettendorf, and Doug Buchanan of Park View, Iowa; her grandchildren, Emily (Ian) Scott, Elizabeth (Brian) Dennison, Abby Buchanan, Audrey Buchanan and Dawson Buchanan; her great-grandchildren, Ellie Scott, Owen Scott, Annie Scott and Jake Dennison; her brother, Robert (Carol) Brooks of Osceola, Iowa; and her nephew, Brad (Tammy) Brooks of Corydon, Iowa who was more like a brother to her.

In addition to her husband, Loretta was preceded in death by her parents.
