Lorraine was born January 20, 1926 in Durant, Iowa, the daughter of Herman & Alma (Behrens) Ast. She was united in marriage to Raymond M. Scherer on May 5, 1950 in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1977.

Lorraine was retired from the Rock Island Arsenal where she had been employed as an Administrative Assistant for seventeen years.

She was a devoted Christian woman and a long-time member of Bettendorf First Assembly of God. She was honored as one of the Golden Angels Older Generation, a mentor of the AGLOW International Prayer Team and Bible Study. She was also a long-time member of the QC Association of Evangelicals.

Mom’s passion was reading her Bible and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved praise music, gardening, and playing cards and games.

She took great pride in dressing all six girls alike in matching Easter dresses that she had sewn herself, joined by Mark in his Easter suit.

She loved her family and her special friends. She prayed for everyone’s special needs.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Karen (Douglas) Truesdell of Bettendorf, Pamela (Ron) Amick of TX, Sheila (Randy) Stalsberg of Moline, Cindy Swearinger of AL, Paula (Larry) Yoke of TX and Simone (Bob) Huskey of Silvis; her son, Mark (Angie) Scherer of Davenport; her grandchildren, Nicole, Christine, Patrick, Sarah, Nathan, Fae, Raymond, Tiffany, Shane, Melinda, Troy, Tonya, Gary, Tyler, Ronnie, Joshua, Jamey, Ashley & Whitney; seventeen great-grandchildren; her niece, Linda Ruggeberg; and her nephew, Roe Theisen.

In addition to her husband, Raymond, Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Adeline & Alice and an infant brother; and her grandson, Brian Bevilacqua.

The family would like to express special thanks for all their friends, mom’s friends, her church, McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, the Genesis Hospice team and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their sincere caring and gentle touch.
