Louann P. Peterson, 69, of Bettendorf, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, at First United Presbyterian Church in Moline, Illinois. Visitation will be held Friday, July 19, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Presbyterian Church, The Rotary Foundation, or Chapter LC of PEO - Program for Continuing Education.
Louann was born on July 21, 1949 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Harlan and Harriett (Shelhorn) Pfaff. Following her graduation from Fort Dodge High School, she achieved her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Iowa State University. On July 24, 1971, she married Douglas Peterson in Fort Dodge. Louann worked as a pre-school teacher until her retirement, giving hundreds of children in Ottumwa a great start to their education. She was an active member of First United Presbyterian Church in Moline, where she loved leading Bible studies, visiting shut-ins, singing in the choir, and expressing her deep faith in Jesus Christ. She was also a member of PEO Chapter LC, Bible Study Fellowship, Rotary Youth Exchange, and Bettendorf Life Fitness Center, where she enjoyed water aerobics. But more than anything she loved her family and looked forward to regular FaceTime sessions with her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory are her husband, Doug Peterson of Bettendorf; sons, Gregory (Cheryl Kingan) Peterson of New York City, New York, Andrew (Melissa Ku) Peterson of Arlington, Virginia; three grandchildren, Nathan, Bennett, and Riley Peterson, all of Arlington; brother, Tom (Jean) Pfaff of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; and her beloved exchange students, Julian Teplinski of Hannover, Germany, Dominik Saathoff of Hamburg, Germany, Alexis Lavogiez of Longueueil, Quebec, Canada, Chih Kai Chang of Taiwan, and Guillaume Marbach of Paris, France.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
