Lovie Grace Johnston, 94, a long-time resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, and for the past five years a resident of Palmer Hills Retirement Residence, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center.
Visitation for Lovie will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M on Wednesday, May 16, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to C.A.S.I., the Mississippi Valley Blood Center or a charity of the donor’s choice.
She was born June 9, 1912 in Summersville, Missouri, the daughter of Benjamin Levi and Dorothy “Dollie” Sophia (Boyd) Keeling. On November 21, 1936, she was united in marriage to Cyril Fenton Johnston in Woodston, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1989.
Lovie worked for many years at the former Eagle Food Centers in Bettendorf and Davenport. Following her retirement, she devoted many hours as a volunteer at the Mississippi Valley Blood Center.
A devoted homemaker, mother & Christian, Lovie doted on her entire family whom she loved so very much. In earlier years, she & her husband loved to travel throughout the United States. Her spontaneous sense of humor and quick wit remained with her until the end. Although she will be sadly missed, her beautiful memories will live forever in the hearts of those who knew & loved her.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Carol (Roger) Irey of Davenport, Iowa; her son, Lee Johnston of New York City, New York; her grandchildren, Sheryl (Merl) Jones of Yorktown, Illinois, Richard (Mary) Irey of Coralville, Iowa and Julie (Pat) Minnucci of Atlanta, Georgia; her sister, Virgie “Boots” Motes of Augusta Kansas; several nieces & nephews; and several step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Lovie was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
