Loyola A. McCandless, 81, of Davenport, Iowa and formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, died Thursday, July 22, 2009 at Rosewood Care Center in Moline.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, July 27, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. A rosary will be recited at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Loyola was born November 9, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Herman & Cecily (McCune) Grieder. She was united in marriage to James F. McCandless on September 25, 1949 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1997.
Loyola had been employed as a bookkeeper and office manager for many years with Remco Federal. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Genesis Medical Center, West Campus Auxiliary, to which she devoted many hours. She enjoyed the Chicago Cubs and spending time with her beloved family.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda & Mike Maag of Davenport, Kerry & Charlie Bicknell of Pleasant Valley, Iowa and Juli & Ronnie McCann of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; her step-son, Jim McCandless and Karalee of Elkhart, Indiana; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister Mary Langfeldt and her husband, Al of Davenport.
In addition to her husband, Jim, Loyola was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Jim McCandless, Jr.
