L. Ruth Anderson, 69, of Davenport went to meet her Heavenly Father in Glory on May 5, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 6, 2004 at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service should meet at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf at 1:00 P.M. Friday. Memorials may be made to Westside Assembly of God Church, the American Diabetes Association or the American Kidney Association.
She was born on January 28, 1935 in Memphis, Missouri, the daughter of Willy & LuLu (Thompson) Stine. She married James E. "Lefty" Anderson, Sr. on December 18, 1955 in Memphis. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1992.
She was a devoted wife and mother, a dedicated grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to anyone who needed her. She was the cornerstone of her family to whom she devoted her life. She selflessly helped those in need. She enjoyed spending time with her family & friends, cooking, sewing, volunteering in the community, fishing with her grandchildren and family vacations. She drove the bus for Westside Assembly of God Church where she was a longtime, active member and was also one of the primary cooks for the many breakfast programs at church.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters and sons-in-law, Christine & Bob Carstenson of Donahue, Iowa; Gail & Jerry Hutchings of Shreveport, Louisiana; Ramona "Bobbie" & Rich Hendricksmeyer of Keokuk, Iowa; and Lynda & Cyrille Verhelst of Davenport; her son, James Earl Anderson Jr. of El Dorado, Kansas; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Jessica, Jeremy, Nichole, Geoffrey, Domonique, Jake, Angel, Joe, Alexandria and Matthew; her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Drew, Ashley, Jonathan, Alexis and Josh; her sister-in-law, Elaine Stein of Davenport and her special friends, Julie Edwards and Marvin Hancq.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her daughter, Dena Jo Anderson; her son, John A. Houk and her brother, Willie Stein, Jr.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Pat, Tony, Elaine, David, & Tiffany of Meadow Lawn Nursing Center and the staff of the dialysis unit at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus.
