Lyla Harter

Lyla Jeane Harter, 80, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Friday, August 24, 2012 at Manor Care Health Services, Utica Ridge, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of service.  Private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport.  Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Lyla was born January 31, 1932 in Moline, Illinois the daughter of Lyle and Annie (Wilms) Nixon.  She was united in marriage to Daryl Harter in Moline on July 6, 1949.  They enjoyed sixty years of marriage before he passed away on July 22, 2009.

Lyla was a homemaker who enjoyed singing in the church choir, gardening, baking, camping, reading, writing poetry and loved going to garage sales.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Cheryl (Robert) Campbell, Bettendorf; her grandson, Jeremy Painter; her sister, Judy Carter, Moline and her aunt, Joyce Long, LeClaire, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, Daryl, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Harter and her daughter, Deborah Painter.

Lyla’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hospice Compasses, Option Health and Manor Care especially the Arcadia unit.
