Lyle Ernst

Lyle L Ernst, 77 of Bettendorf, passed away Friday, Sept 30, 2016 after a brief fight with cancer.
Lyle was born Oct 31, 1938 in Andrew, Iowa to Vincent and Nola (Tebben) Ernst. He married Patricia (Jeffers) Ernst on December 15, 1957. Lyle served actively in the US Navy for four years.
Lyle loved life, laughter and his family. He was a die-hard CUBS Fan and an avid Hawkeye fan. He was an author, editor, free-lance journalist and news contributor for various magazines and newspapers. He published multiple books.
Lyle is survived by his wife Pat, their children; Cindy (Jay) Van Fossen, Jeff (JoLin) Ernst, Shari (Bruce) Nelson, grandchildren Matt Ernst, Eric (Stephany) Ernst, Kyle Spies, Ben (Candi) Nelson, Nate Nelson and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. There will be a “Celebration of Life” on Saturday October 8 from 4-7 pm at the VFW in Bettendorf, the family would like to request you to wear CUBS gear if you have it. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
