Lyle M. Long, 71, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Trinity Unity PointHealth in Bettendorf. There will be no visitation and services are private. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Association or to Disabled American Veterans.
Lyle was born May 5, 1944 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Winnie and Opal Long. He was united in marriage to Mary E. Biever on June 23, 1972 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Lyle graduated from Stronghurst High School and the University of Northern Iowa and was retired as an insurance adjuster. He had a great love of the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, walking his dog and riding his motorcycle. He collected watches and also enjoyed flying, having been a member of the FAA Flying Club of Erie, Illinois and the Quad-City Cruisers Car Club. Lyle also enjoyed reading about World War II and Ronald Reagan.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; his children, Joe (Amber) Long and Nicole (Darren) Mondanaro; five grandchildren, Jordan, Lexi, Adam and Josie Long and Max Mondanaro; his brother Lynn (Jorja) Long; and several nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents.
