Lyle L. Hayes, 81, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Friday, April 23, 2010 at the William Child’s Hospice House, Palm Bay, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A visitation will also be held from 3:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. on Wednesday at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Home in Lineville, Iowa. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Lineville, Iowa.
Lyle was born March 11, 1929 in Mercer, Missouri the son of Lewis T. and Mary E. (Beavers) Hayes. He was united in marriage to Viola M. Petty on July 10, 1949 in Leon, Iowa. She preceded him in death on June 25, 2004.
Lyle worked for Sivyer Steel Co./Riverside Steel Co. for thirty-four years as a grinder in foundry production. Lyle was also farmer and did tractor work all of his life. After he retired, he started his own commercial mowing business. He was working on his tractors until 79 years old when he gave up his business.
He enjoyed hunting, playing pool, playing cards and loved playing marbles. He enjoyed children and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Pauletta (Willie) Geiger, Satellite Beach, Florida; five grandchildren, Brook Hayes Upton, Mandy Hayes, Jessica Young, Brian and Deanna Geiger; three great-grandchildren, Bobby, Tucker and MacKenna Danielson and his sister, Mary Etta Harkins, Blue Grass, Iowa.
Along with his wife, Viola he was preceded in death by his son, Lyle E. Hayes; his brothers, Murl Hayes, Ivan Hayes, Burl Hayes and Alva Hayes; his sisters, Ruth Rogers, Faye Honn, Maxine Showers and Darlene Showers and his parents.
