Eula Mae Bloomer, 81, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died Thursday, November 18, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus in Rock Island, Illinois.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 22, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Mae was born October 19, 1923 in Palmyra, Missouri, the daughter of Charles J. & Lydia (Bailey) Meyer. She was united in marriage to Russell A. Bloomer on November 20, 1939 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1982.
She was employed in health care, retiring from the former Davenport Osteopathic Hospital in Davenport. Following retirement, she was also employed at the Sisters of Humility in Davenport.
For many years, Mae was an active member of the CASS Program at Scott Comminity College, hosting foreign students in her home. Sixteen college-age students were welcomed in Mae’s home over the years and she was honored by Scott Comminity College with a special award. She stayed in touch with her “adopted” kids through the years and even visited their communities in Central America on two occasions.
Among the things she enjoyed were working in her garden, traveling and most of all, spending time with her beloved family.
Those left to honor her memory include her children & their spouses, Larry & Pat Bloomer of Grand Mound, Iowa, Leota Rickey of Rock Island, Illinois, Lynn Bloomer of Iowa City, Iowa, Russell & Shelia Bloomer of Iowa City, Iowa, Leslie & Karen Bloomer of Davenport, Iowa, Jeff & Cindy Bloomer of Hebron, Kentucky and Jay & Katie Bloomer of Davenport; 34 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; her half-sisters, Vicky Calvert of Hannibal, Missouri and Diane Scoggins of Kansas City, Missouri; and her brother & sister-in-law, M “Doc” & Loretta Meyer of Coal Valley, Illinois.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Leota, her granddaughter, Mary, and her grandson, Bradley.
